Here’s one of the best art history books for kids you’ll ever find! I was incredibly impressed by this and the fourth graders couldn’t get enough! A beautifully presented book that takes readers on a journey through the world of art. Ranging from prehistoric cave paintings to Da Vinci to Banksy and everything in between. With a friendly alien guide named Fred, children explore different art movements, famous artists, and cultural influences, all while learning the significance of art throughout history. It highlights fascinating historical sites such as the Lascaux Cave in France, the Terracotta Army in China, and the mysterious Nazca lines. This unique combination of art history and world exploration took our class on a fascinating journey capturing the imagination of every student. Throughout the book, there are a number of interesting art projects adding a wonderful interactive element to each section. As we went through the book we really took our time and used YouTube to go into more depth about a lot of the historical sites. We found some amazing documentaries and short bios about many of the artists as well. The combination of this book, videos online and the art projects within, allowed for some of the most interesting classes we’ve ever had. I really can’t recommend this book enough! This is absolutely a must have for the classroom. The fourth graders learned so much and genuinely developed an appreciation for art and history. Honestly, this book is a gem and definitely worth picking up. The world needs more books like this!

Highly recommend!! The History of Art for Kids is an amazing, well crafted, fun art history book, not just for kids! Fred Alien is an engaging leader throughout the entire book. My favorite part are the fun exercises to create your own art while studying and learning along the way. This book is an excellent guide through a vast understanding of art history while remaining approachable for children. As an artist myself, it was a really fun and exciting refresher! There are plenty of beautiful visuals, contextual explanations, and timelines to understand and retain the world of art. There’s no better way to learn about art than to interact with art itself! This book is a piece of art— it challenges you to become creative yourself and is a proper guide to exploring a vast land of creativity, culture, and history for children and adults alike!!
